The rundown on membersLet us hope our recent atrocious weather has merely inconvenienced members, but caused no catastrophic issues to families, homes etc. We may need to put in some extra training to make up for lost sessions. Go easy though, we cannot make it all in one big run. Jo Doughty-Roberts and family have returned from the UK and France. Thanks for the photos, Jo. The Lucases and Ovendens
have been touring Europe, having first attended a family wedding in Turkey. Sarah Waladan is in Iran, while Alex Hill took in a parkrun in Cork on his travels. We look forward to hearing all your stories. Peta Bray flew “across the ditch” to Auckland for her first attempt at the Olympic Distance Triathlon. Unfortunately in heavy rain, her brakes failed and she took a fall a third of the way through the cycle leg. Courageously she managed to finish, though is still suffering from injuries to her thigh and elbow 4 weeks later. We hope you are back running before too long, Peta. Susan Murray, Greg Muir and Steve Garamy contested the Kurnell Sprint Triathlon last week. Susan was 2nd in her age category, while Greg was placed 4th despite his bike chain coming off twice. Steve is off to Port Macquarie in a week for his first Ironman Triathlon. Good luck Steve. Kim Cayzer had “a tough day at the office” on Monday at the Boston Marathon. She made the finish fighting against low temperatures, rain and wind with ice on her tights and frozen lumps in her gels. That’s what Woodies are made of. Well done, Kim. An enjoyable weekend was had by all who travelled
to our Nation’s Capital for the Canberra Running Festival. Many excellent performances were recorded from the 5k event through to the Ultramarathon. Congratulations one and all. Georgia Lawrence competed in the National Orienteering Championships in South Australia over 2 days and was placed 6th in Australia and 2nd in NSW in the under 20 Events - a great result, Georgia. At the Rolls Royce stand at Cronulla’s Vintage Car Show I bumped into Ross Keys, looking fit and well. He asked to be remembered to all who remember him. A friend and I enjoyed having an informed look over the
beautiful machines. Thanks from all of us to Kath and Frank for a delightful morning at their Anzac Breakfast Run. The hospitality was outstanding, the courses excellent and the amazing breakfast was “out of this world”. We certainly did not go home hungry. We send our very best Woodies good luck to Martin and Anthony as they take on the world’s oldest and largest ultramarathon. Comrades 90km race takes place in South Africa at the end of this month. Have a wonderful time and trust you’ll be thrilled with your performance. Hope all are looking forward to the many races on the calendar over the next few months. It’s always easier when we have a goal in our sights. Let’s go for it and good luck to all. Kerry
